The deadline to PAN–Aadhaar Linking is approaching, and taxpayers who fail to complete the process risk their PAN becoming inactive, as per the Income Tax Department.
An inactive PAN cannot be used for filing income tax returns, opening bank or demat accounts, or making investments. High-value financial transactions may also get blocked.
Taxpayers who miss the deadline can still link PAN with Aadhaar, but only after paying a ₹1,000 penalty. The PAN remains inactive until the linking is completed.
The PAN–Aadhaar linking process is fully online and can be done through the income tax e-filing portal. Once linked successfully, the PAN is usually reactivated within a few working days.
